Military Recovery & Load Handling

Contact Us

EKA Limited’s project portfolio demonstrates our commitment to delivering best in class capability of military recovery equipment and winching systems. From delivering the latest CAN-Bus control system technology to the British Army’s Support Vehicle (Recovery) Fleet, to enabling suspend tow of one of the largest self propelled howitzers in service today, and to support the on-going repair and recovery capability requirement for the MLRS fleet, EKA Limited’s experience and products speak to our ability to deliver the capability and performance demanded by armed forces across the globe.

Our experience and knowledge of recovery vehicle dynamics, capabilities and crucially, their limitations, comes from decades of delivering integrated solutions with vehicle platforms.

SuperCompact for the UK:
Delivering Support Vehicle
(Recovery)

Perhaps EKA Limited’s most significant contract of recent years is the successful delivery of 288 recovery vehicles to UK MoD on time and on budget.

The Prime contractor for the Support Vehicle Programme, MAN Truck & Bus UK Limited, chose EKA Limited to deliver the recovery vehicle element of the programme after EKA’s extensive product development and technology demonstration investment during the late 1990’s
and early 2000’s.

Culminating in the SuperCompact recovery top hamper, the Support Vehicle (Recovery), or SV(R) as it is commonly known, delivers suspend tow, rigid tow, lifting, recovery winching and self recovery capability to the British Army’s wheeled fleet.

Lightweight: A High
Mobility, Agile, Intimate
Recovery System

Operations and deployments over recent years have allowed EKA Limited to gain deeper understanding of the detailed and nuanced challenges faced by British forces. This includes the developing requirement to support light and medium weight wheeled vehicles in line with the existing repair and recovery philosophy, while utilising smaller, lighter, higher mobility assets.

The EKA Lightweight recovery system has been designed and developed over the last five years to answer this complex requirement.

Supporting MLRS RRV

The Multi Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is a cornerstone of British and NATO artillery systems. UK recovery philosophy requires repair and recovery variants of vehicles where other recovery assets cannot provide combined recovery and mobility capability to match the principal variant. Accordingly, the MLRS fleet includes the MLRS Repair and Recovery Vehicle, the MLRS RRV.

In 2013, EKA Limited carried out a refurbishment and upgrade programme on the main recovery and auxiliary winches on the RRV.

Supercompact For Oman:
Suspend Tow Of The G6

Delivering on a unique requirement: to provide suspend tow recovery of the G6 Self-Propelled Howitzer. This particular requirement was challenging in many respects, but the principal requirement of suspend tow of the Denel G6 was the real test of SuperCompact’s capabilities.

Teaming up with Iveco, and utilising their Astra M410.54 WM 8×8, it was clear that the combination of the Iveco platform and EKA’s SuperCompact recovery equipment was up to the task.

Delivered in 2014, the recovery vehicle passed its demonstration trials and successfully lifted, towed and recovered the G6.

Services

Supportability and ILS

While our Engineering & Design services are the core of EKA’s operations, the longevity and long-term success of our equipment increasingly rely on a robust Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) plan and cost-effective In-Service Supportability offering. We ensure that from cradle to grave the performance of our products can endure extreme environmental use and, are easy to maintain when in operational use.

This ‘through life’ Supportability approach is achieved by design and analytic review that consider equipment reliability and maintainability through such techniques as Logistic Support Analysis techniques, Reliability-Centred Maintenance, Safety, Human Factors Engineering and effective through-life cost of ownership planning.

Engineering & Design Services

From our origins in the design and integration of military recovery equipment, mechanical and electro-hydraulic engineering design has been at the heart of EKA’s business. Culminating in the integration of modern digital CAN-Bus control systems, EKA independently pursues the development of next-generation recovery, load handling and winching equipment.

Our engineers apply a methodical series of steps to design and creating functional products and processes. In applying this methodology, the EKA design team can create CAD models, solve engineering problems and deliver cost effective solutions to meet most platform-based equipment requirements.

Procurement & Spares Supply

Supporting three generations on recovery vehicle, TR2000 main recovery winch in CRARRV, and the MLRS RRV, across continents and during operational deployments has allowed EKA to build a strong spares support operation designed to deliver availability and the all-important, customer value for money. Holding stock where required, or managing on-demand supply chains, EKA provides a scalable spares provisioning and supply service to meet the requirements of the end user.

Configuration & Obsolescence Management

EKA systems and equipment are designed to operate and deliver capability over the long-term. Over the years, and indeed decades, configuration management becomes increasingly important and issues of obsolescence cannot be avoided. We proactively manage configuration and obsolescence seeking as necessary alternative solutions that provide fit, form and function equivalence whenever possible, or minimise upgrade costs when not.

To support our proactive approach EKA continuously build and develop a network of complimentary manufacturers and suppliers to ensure the optimum solutions are available to manage obsolescence and technological developments.
